Tips For Amazing Wedding Day Getting Ready Photos

Getting ready is an magical time of the wedding day.  Ok, I admit, the entire wedding day is magical!  But getting ready is still an important part of the day to document.  This is when you are getting ready to see your future spouse for the first time on one of the most important days of your lives!  So, here it is: my tips for having amazing getting ready photos!

Groomsmen

Have all groomsmen in their shirts and pants before the photographer arrives.  The photographer can still get pictures of all the groom’s details before he puts them on and then take pictures of all the ties, cuff-links, shoes, suspenders, etc. being put on.  This not only helps speed up pictures of the guys getting ready, but avoids any awkward boxer shots.

Have the groomsmen in their shirts and pants before the photographer arrives.

Wood Hanger

Have a wood hanger for at least the bride’s dress.  You have a beautiful wedding dress and a plastic hanger just does not do it justice!  You have a few options for the wooden hangers.

  • You can get just one for the bride’s dress (maybe ask around in your family).
  • You can get a customized wooden hanger that has the bride’s future name on it or a design that matches the theme of the wedding.
  • You can get a pack of hangers for all of the bride and bridesmaid’s dresses!  Then you can get a a picture of all the dresses looking fabulous!  You can get packs of wooden hangers on Amazon or even at IKEA!

Bring a wooden hanger to put your dress on for pictures.

Hair and Make-up

The bride should plan to have her hair and makeup done before the getting ready pictures actually start.  This way you won’t have half a face of make-up in your getting ready photos.  The photographer can still get getting ready pictures of the touch ups for hair and makeup.

Get a Cute Robe or Other Outfit

You want to look cute in your getting ready pictures, or course.  Getting a cute robe or similar outfit will help up the cute factor!  I suggest getting something that opens from the front, so you do not have to pull it over your head to keep your hair and make-up safe.  Additionally you can get matching cute outfits for all your bridesmaids!  It makes a great bridal party gift!

Have a cute outfit like a robe or flannel to get ready in.

Getting in The Dress

Have the bridesmaids and the bride’s mom in their dresses before the bride gets into her dress.  This way everyone is looking their best for these pictures!  Bonus: it makes the pictures of the bride getting ready match the wedding color theme, even if the hotel room doesn’t!

Wait To Put On Jewelry

Wait to put on your jewelry until you are in your wedding dress!  It just looks so much prettier having the finishing touches put on while you are in your wedding dress!  If you forget and put on your jewelry early, don’t fret.  I will just make you act like you are putting those ear rings after you are in your dress!
