I met Kaela at the Arizona Bridal Show. I knew I had to take her out for coffee as soon as I saw her Nightmare Before Christmas earrings. We set up a coffee date with her and her fiance Mike. The two met in high school when she was a freshman and he was a senior and they have been together for 10 years! I love working with couples that have long histories, because it reminds me of my husband and me (we had also met as teenagers and dated for 10 years before getting married).
They really wanted to do a fall engagement session somewhere up north. So as the fall drew near, we set a date for an engagement session in Sedona. Seriously, a Sedona engagement session in the fall. How lucky can a girl get?! Apparently pretty dang lucky, because not only was it the perfect day and the perfect location, Kaela and Mike showed up in the perfect outfits and an outpouring of giggles and love!
We walked down the Oak Creek Canyon trail stopping at little shoot off trails to hide away from the other hikers. I kept searching for a good spot to head down to the creek where no one would risk spraining an ankle. I finally found one and suggested that Kaela put her flats on to get down to the water. She asked if she could just go barefoot. Ummm, yes! I would be barefoot always if I could!
After sharing some giggles about me asking them to look at a ladder in the distance, we headed back up to the trail and continued on. We came across an old dilapidated building covered in Ivy. Reading a sign, the building was burned down in a fire some time ago, but many of the red bricks walls are still there, beautiful as ever. I climbed up onto one of the walls and we captured some of my favorite images from the session there. Alas, the sun was going down and it was starting to get chilly. We had to head back up to the cars and drive back to the heat of Phoenix. Until next time Sedona. 🙂
