Brina & Steven – Papago Park Engagement

Who plans an engagement session in the Arizona desert in July?  Apparently we do!  Brina & Steven were truely troopers through the weather of this summer engagement session.  We tried to beat the heat by having the session at 9, but it was still hot in the direct sun.  And on top of that, we had crazy bursts of wind blowing Brina’s beautiful hair all over the place!  Eeep.  I am so glad they persevered and put their trust in me to get great images despite the weather, because these photos are AMAZING.  I have plenty of tricks up my sleeve and we were able to use that wind to our advantage to get some great movement in some of the photos.  You know, in between the giggles caused by hair being blown in her face ever few minutes.  🙂  But seriously, they were such a treat to work with.

My goal to keep them cool during the session was to alternate shade with full sun pictures.  After a bit of full sun pictures, I hid them in some shade trees.  The wind was kind of crazy over there, so I stuck them back in the sun!  This is where we really used the wind to our advantage.  The wind was blowing just right so that I could capture the mountain and cacti behind them while the wind was blowing her hair back and away from her face.  After all this, we needed a serious sun break.  So, we hiked up into the Hole in the Rock to enjoy the full shade.  The rock was so cool that it was a true treat.

You know I had to get some pictures in my favorite batch of shade trees before we left.  The bamboo was still looking super green, so we ran over there to grab a few last pictures.  There was a poor bird stuck in the bamboo and Brina was determined to help him.  So with all the other birds squawking about, she took a knife and cut the bamboo strings that were caught around his feet.  She is way braver than I am, and it payed off because she freed this bird!  I cannot wait to spend more time with them at their Boho wedding in October!
