If you have been to hanging around my about page, or been to my house, or talked to me for more than 15 minutes, you probably know that I am a pretty big Harry Potter fan. My husband too. We were so excited when the Wizarding World of Harry Potter opened in California! We are now only 6 hours from Butterbeers!!! So when my birthday rolled around this year, I knew exactly where I wanted to go. Here are my tips for an amazing date with your spouse at Wizarding World of Harry Potter.
Breakfast at Three Broom Sticks
What better way to start the day than a traditional English breakfast?! I made my husband try the black pudding and I don’t think he will ever forgive me. He was not a fan. 🙂
Butterbeer
So, after you are stuffed from breakfast, I suggest grabbing your first Butterbeer. And then as many as you can possibly consume for the rest of your trip! My favorite it the frozen Butterbeer. We seriously drank so much that we started getting stomach aches and had to slow down. But they are sooooo good!
Shops
This is a good time to sip your Butterbeer and let your breakfast digest before you go on any rides, so I suggest checking out the shops. Oh my god the shops. You will want to buy ALL of the things! Everywhere you look there is something cool. I loved looking around and interacting with the shop decorations just as much, if not more, than looking at the things that were available to buy.
Rides
By now you should have finished your Butterbeer and digested most of your breakfast. I know you are dying for another Butterbeer, but I suggest you go on the rides first. There are two rides at Universal Studios Hollywood: Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey and Flight of the Hippogriff.
Flight of the Hippogriff is a ‘family-friendly’ roller coaster, but you still have to go on it! The line winds all around Hargrid’s Hut and there are a few “Easter Eggs” hidden in the line for your viewing pleasure.
Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey I can safely say is not like any other ride I have been on before. I will warn that it did give my husband and I a bit of motion sickness, but that did not stop us from riding it multiple times. Almost as amazing as the ride itself is waiting in line. You are taken throughout the grounds of the Hogwarts castle. Each time we waited in line we noticed something we missed previously.
Lunch at Three Broomsticks
Well now it is time for lunch. At naturally you have to eat at Three Broomsticks again. Where else is there?! You can get everything from cornish pasties and shepherds pie to “The Great Feast”. Lunch and Dinner has a lot more options for those of us that are vegetarian or vegan. There is ‘vegetable entree’ with asparagus and mashed potatoes that is amazing. And of course, grab some more Butterbeer if you haven’t already.
Shows/Entertainment
Ok, time to digest and sip another Butterbeer. Head over to the stage and watch the Triwizard Spirit Rally and the Frog Choir. You will get to see the students of Durmstrang and Beauxbatons preform and it is pretty awesome. Then stick around for the Hogwarts Frog Choir performance (and try not to think about how their hands are probably in the frogs butts). Then head over to Olivander’s and watch the wand choose a select wizard (usually a little kid, the younger the kid the funner it is to watch).
Rides Again
I mean, why not?!
Honeydukes
Personally, we drank way too much Butterbeer to have any other candies throughout the day. So, we hit up Honeydukes on our way out of the park so we could enjoy the treats later. There are sooooo many different treats to choose from. If you have never had Bertie Bott’s Every Flavour Beans, you have to grab some! Do yourself a favor and have your Butterbeer hand to wash down any vomit or soap flavor beans you may come across. I absolutely could not resist grabbing some “U No Poo” candies (I love book references!). We also picked up a chocolate frog, sugar quill, exploding bonbons, and acid pops.
This may have been the longest #DateYourSpouse post to date, but that is only because the Wizarding World of Harry Potter is so amazing! If you are a Harry Potter fan you absolutely have to do this at least once in your life, and who better to do it with than your spouse?!
