Food trucks are a newer trend that my husband and I have been very late to take notice of. Sometimes we joke that we are old people because we don’t know/understand new trends, and food trucks were no exception. One day we got a postcard from the city about a food truck even they were hosting in the old-town area fairly close to our house. I decided it was time for us to try something new, and we made a date.
Festival or Single Food Truck
For a date night, I highly suggest finding a food truck festival or gathering. (I am not sure what the correct term is. Refer to my lack of understanding of new trends above.) The multiple trucks will give you the option to get appetizers from one, dinner from another, and desert from a third. How fun! And you are supporting multiple local businesses at the same time.
The exception would be if you are a food truck enthusiast and there is a specific truck you LOOOOVE. Then absolutely plan a date at that specific truck, wherever it is!
If You’re Picky or Have Dietary Restrictions, Don’t Worry
Sometimes it is difficult for me to eat out at places because I don’t eat meat and have a few food allergies. So, I am always researching restaurants before we go anywhere, and this was no different. I researched the different food trucks that were going to be at the event and was pleasantly surprised that a good number of them had options I could eat.
If you have dietary restrictions or are a picky eater, I suggest finding a food truck festival vs a single truck. That way there are more options for you to choose from and a more likely chance that you will be able to find something you will enjoy.
Ok, yes. A lot of food truck food tends to be fried, smothered in cheese, or both (at least what I have seen). But don’t let that discourage you. You can use this as your ‘cheat day’ or find a healthier food truck! There are food trucks for just about everything: gluten free, fresh smoothies and lemonade, and falafels and hummus to name a few. I am sure you can find a food truck that fits your lifestyle.
Food Trucks are a fun spin on a traditional dinner date night. I highly recommend it. Just google “Food Trucks” and your city name and you are bound to find an endless list of Food Trucks in your area, and maybe a festival or two!
