Sara and Nolan got married in Sara’s parents backyard on Cinco De Mayo. The ceremony took place in front of a big red barn and the reception was in a large grassy area. They had a blue vintage work truck decorated with balloons and a “Spitzer De Mayo” sign to direct guests to the ceremony area. Sara’s dad and Nolan made the most amazing bar set up for the reception. Complete with a service bar for mixed drinks, a self-serve craft beer pour, and tubs full of chilled sodas and water.
For their first look, we went to a neighborhood just down the street from Sara’s parents house. Sara found the neighborhood by accident and found these amazing desert landscape areas with small waterfalls, creeks, and bridges. We parked in the neighborhood and went off to one of these areas. I went ahead to get Nolan ready and left Sara with my second shooter. In the minute or two she was waiting, a police officer stopped her! He just wanted to make sure that she was OK and did not get stranded in a wedding dress somehow. (Or, maybe he was making sure she wasn’t drunk walking around the neighborhood in a wedding dress!) She told him she was fine and just a little hot. He asked if we were taking pictures and then told her to stay cool. This was definitely a first. I have never had a bride stopped by the cops! Sara had a good laugh about it and then we went off to their first look.
Sara and Nolan met at NAU in marching band. They were introduced by their friend Jon who they had officiate their wedding ceremony. These two absolutely love going to Disneyland and all things Disney. Of course, they incorporated Disney into their wedding day. Sara wore blue Mickey ear rings. Their guest book was the house from Up and the guests signed the balloons. The bouquets were in light saber hilts. And during the reception, the DJ released tables by playing Disney trivia!
Sara and Nolan also love spending time with their lab/dane mix Killian. One of the benefits of a backyard wedding, is you can include your pets! Of course, Killian was included in their wedding ceremony and family pictures. He even had his own bow tie that matched the bridal party.
These two embraced their Cinco De Mayo wedding in some really fun ways. They had food trucks serve tacos for their reception. They had a margarita fountain with teal margaritas to match their wedding colors. And my favorite, they took tequila shots together for their unity ceremony!
Sara and Nolan – Your wedding truly showed how much love and support your family and friends have for the two of you. I wish you two a happy marriage that is full of laughter and all things Disney. And I hope that we run into each other in Disneyland sometime!!!
